Featured town:
Millerton, NY

  Dutchess County, NY

Dutchess and Columbia Counties boast an abundance of undeveloped,
unspoiled and protected land.  The rolling hills provide a scenic blend of wooded and
agricultural areas. The Taconic Mountain Range (also known as the Berkshire Foothills)
rises magnificently to the east, providing a spectacular backdrop to any architectural plans.
Silver Mountain located in the Town of Northeast is the highest point in Dutchess County
overlooking the Hudson River Valley and the Catskill Mountain Range. Rolling hills
and peaceful valleys fill the land between their peaks and four distinct seasons change
the color of the countryside. The views are spectacular!

There are also many locations for fine and unique shopping and craft fairs, antique
shops, roadside farm stands with organic delights, community day celebrations, firemen’s
carnivals and community breakfasts, trout streams, several lakes, golf courses and game
preserves, horseback and trail riding facilities, numerous Motels and Bed & Breakfast Inns,
a mouth watering choice of restaurants, award-winning wines from local vineyards,
dozens of parks and recreational areas including campgrounds and hiking trails in addition

to the Harlem Valley Rail Trail for hiking and biking, historic sites, nearby cultural events
and art galleries (all with very little traffic.) The area has highly regarded schools both
public and private, excellent nearby colleges and graduate schools, international airports

within a one hour +/- drive and train service including Metro North rail service with the
Harlem Valley Line north to Wassaic. We are truly wealthy with opportunities to refresh,
relax and replenish the energy of body and soul.

Accessibility is not a problem.  The border between Dutchess and Columbia
Counties is just a little over 100 miles north from New York City (about 2 hours drive) and
Albany is approximately 60 miles away.

You will discover in these small towns friendliness and a sense of community
that is not easily found.  Dutchess and Southern Columbia Counties have often been
called a day trip to paradise. The land owners  have maintained the small town charm
and the integrity of our rural beauty. An abundance of open space with conservation
 easements is also present.

            Routes 22 and the Taconic State Parkway are the primary north and south routes;
and there are enough roads east and west to keep you busy exploring for a long time.
With the aid of our Area Maps you'll discover a delightful part of New York State for yourself.

Our area has always been a land of dreams and of dreamers nourished by its
extravagant beauty.  What we have been and what we have become has depended upon
the land, of course, but it has also depended upon the dreamers.

Dare to fulfill your dreams! If Dutchess and Columbia Counties or the Northwest
Corner of Connecticut haven’t worked their seductive charms on you yet, then take heed
that you may fall in love.
