The Town of Northeast was established in 1788 and is one of Dutchess County’s earliest towns. The geography of this 43 square mile town borders both Connecticut and Massachusetts. The rolling hills and farmland include the Village of Millerton (with a single stop light on either end of its Main Street) and the Hamlets of Shekomeko, Coleman Station, Perry’s Corners and Irondale.
Several historic buildings house today’s more modern gems. MacArthur’s Smokehouse c. 1876 is a fine restaurant serving lunch and dinner in an authentic style. Terni’s built in 1867 is a continuously family owned news store with a penny candy section, ice cream fountain and a local shop for hunting and fishing supplies, clothing and gear.
Simmons Way, now a beautifully restored Country Inn built in 1854, was once the home of the town physician. Railroad Plaza originally constructed in 1851 is now a pleasurable walking area with several shops in former railroad buildings.

The original station was replaced in 1911 by the current building which has been the home of Steed Real Estate since 1978 when it was purchased from Penn Central.
